Our Doctor

Dr. Mary Cay Koen is a Damon Smile certified orthodontic specialist who has been in the practice of orthodontics for over 20 years! She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Lambuth University where she served as a Board Chairman. Dr. Koen obtained her dental degree at the University of Tennessee, where she also completed her specialty degree in orthodontics.   Dr. Koen practiced family dentistry for several years before specializing in orthodontics. She feels that this experience gives her a special understanding of the team approach required for her patients who need the combined disciplines of restorative dentistry, orthodontics, and even oral surgery. Dr. Koen has also served her profession as president of both the Tennessee Association of Orthodontists and the University of Tennessee Orthodontic Alumni Association.

Excellence in Orthodontics

Dr. Koen’s passion for orthodontics and dental care extends far beyond being simply a “job.” She sees excellent dental health and esthetics as being important to her adolescent and adult patients in terms of self-esteem as well as dental function. Patients and their families become part of Dr. Koen’s office family.

This Commnity & Beyond

Outside of the office, Dr. Koen enjoys teaching an adult Sunday school class and serving as a youth counselor at her church. Dr. Koen is also involved in local and overseas missions. Partnering with Divine Care Ministries, Dr. Koen has helped to build a dental clinic in Uganda as part of a continuing mission to establish modern dental care in an area so desperately underserved. She goes at least once a year, taking a team of adults and students to serve in Uganda.

Away from work, local philanthropy involvement, and mission work, Dr. Koen loves spending time with husband Tommy, also an orthodontist, and sons Thomas and Michael. Dr. Koen’s sons are, like her, involved in Divine Care Ministries and have both spent time with their mom in Uganda. She and her family share a mutual love for reading, camping, scuba diving, and skiing.
